Peachy at The Met: New Galleries for the Art of The Arab Lands, Turkey, Iran, Central Asia, and Later South Asia...Has Been Open Since November 1, 2011

We absolutely loved the calligraphy and the complex geographic designs that the New Galleries for the Art of the Arab lands boast at our favorite museum, The Metropolitan Museum of Art.  It is an absolutely huge exhibit that spills over across probably more than ten rooms, and every one has its own purpose for this expansive topic.  As you may imagine, Peachy was the history major that embraced every Irish history course at UCC and at BC and other American and Western European topics, and was not enthused by the two nonwestern courses she needed to complete to get her degree, however, contrary to that we did enjoy this gallery series because of the great artistic taste which is typical of The Met.  In particular, we liked the tile Mahrab tile from Iran - blue & white and very pretty and also the Niche formed tile in turquoise...the arched doorways echo the whole design and style of this major exhibit which we liked.  Continuity is always important.  There is also an interesting fashion spot in this exhibit: Shirt of mail and plate!  Check it out.  One of the best rooms is the Koc family galleries room with the rugs and especially the exquisite ceiling.  However, the best room is the reception room from a large house in Syria circa 1707, which if it weren't an exhibit would make a simply fabulous party spot!  Even if you think the title of this gallery is not something you personally are crazy about, you certainly will be impressed with the depth of this exhibit and  some of the aspects we've pointed out.  Go see it!
