A is for Abigail gives your daughters and sons a clear understanding of the true role women have played in shaping the United States. The Almanac of Amazing American Women is an A to Z account of the remarkable achievements of women in our nation’s history. Lynne Cheney shows how American women kept the country moving during times of war, uncovered the answers to genetics, displayed their athletic ability and warmed our hearts with song. She tells us the story of well-known American women like Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony and reveals the names of those trailblazers who helped bring women into the business world (Elizabeth Boit), Congress (Jeannette Rankin) and academia (Euphemia Lofton Haynes). Artfully illustrated by Robin Preiss Glasser, the book catches the imaginations of young readers and invites them to keep reading. Your child will be amazed at the achievements many of these women have accomplished all the while with families at home. It’s wonderful to find such a compilation of outstanding women, and even better to know that the net proceeds of A is for Abigail will be donated to charity. Mrs. Cheney should be added to the list!

I have always loved this book. It has always been a favorite to use to teach about the fabulous women that helped our country in some way. I was happy when I got this in the mail because my original copy was so tattered between me reading it over and over to my class, and then my students wanting to read and look through it. It was more popular with my girls, but several of my boys enjoyed it as well. It helps tremendously during Women's History Month. It's one of my "special books" on display in the front of the room. I love that this book has a variety of women in a variety of fields of study. I want my students to see that girls can do everything boys can.

Of all the Lynne Cheney books I've read, "A is for Abigail: An Almanac of Amazing American Women" is my favorite! I found this book to be interesting, educational and inspirational! Mrs. Cheney does an excellent job of highlighting important women in American history. In some instances (such as "P" for "Performers") many women are mentioned. Master illustrator, Robin Preiss Glasser, once again proves just how much her illustrations not only compliment, but also enhance Mrs. Cheney's story! I very much enjoyed reading this book and am not ashamed to say that as a 30-something adult, I learned quite a bit! I give this book an "A" for "Awesome"!!!

A is for Abigail: An Almanac of Amazing American Women is a book I just fell in love with. Having a young daughter and a product of all-girls school education, I want my daughter to be a strong confident woman. This book is the perfect launching pad to teach her about all of the incredible women in our countries history, From Great writers to Supreme Court Judges, there is a plethora of women to learn about. Lynne Cheney teams up again with illustrator extraordinaire, Robin Preiss Glasser to create another masterpiece that your children will so enjoy. So spread some girl power and get a lesson in the women that shaped out country.

As the mother of two daughters I find it important to teach them about women's history. It is always great to find new stories that highlight "Amazing American Women." I love that the story finds women who have accomplished such a variety of things. Seeing that you don't have to be one type of "Amazing Women" is great. Women can be anything! I especially love the cute way that Lynne Cheney has an encyclopedia-type format. The illustrations by Robin Preiss Glasser are fabulous! Brought the names to life for my little ones! This is a must buy for any parents of little girls!

A IS FOR ABIGAIL get's an A+ in my book! I love this book more than you know. The illustrations are amazing hands down. The story really brings the reader in and trust me when I say you just can't get enough. It's a great book to give as a gift or to have in a school. It shows young girls what women have accomplished. I really think history is an important part of early education. This book really covers all the bases: it's fun, historical, educational and adorable.

Lynne Cheney and Robin Preiss Glasser collaborated on America: A Patriotic Primer, which captured the imagination of American children and became a national best-seller. Now they turn their hands to A is for Abigail: An Almanac of Amazing American Women and bring the great women of American history to life. Filled to the brim with words and pictures that celebrate the remarkable (although often unmarked) achievements of American women, this is a book to relish and to read again and again.

Mothers, daughters, schoolchildren, generations of families -- everyone -- will take Abigail Adams's words to heart and "remember the ladies" once they read the stories of these astonishing, astounding, amazing American women.
