Vote for Extra Effort Player of the Game: Vote for Extra Effort Player of the Game in the Giants 20-17 win over the 49ers in the NFC Championship Game
No contribution can be overlooked in an NFC Championship game such as the one between the Giants and 49ers on Sunday. However, these three players took it to another level at Candlestick Park, propelling Big Blue to Indianapolis for a trip to the Super Bowl. Through Wednesday, fans can vote for Victor Cruz,Eli Manning, or Justin Tuck as their “Extra Effort” Player of the Game.
Here is a look at their performances during New York’s 20-17 NFC Championship victory over San Francisco:
1) One win away from the Super Bowl, Victor Cruz broke the century mark before halftime of the champion game catching eight passes for 125 yards. He went on to lead the team with 10 catches for 142 yards.
2) Eli Manning improved to 7-3 as a starting quarterback in the playoffs, including 5-1 on the road. The five road postseason victories are an NFL record. Manning broke the record by completing 32 of 58 passes for 316 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions against a team that had a plus-28 turnover differential. Manning is the first quarterback in franchise history with back-to-back games of 300 yards while owning Giants records for passes (316), completions (190), completion percentage (60.13), yards (2,220) and touchdown passes (16).
3) Defensive captain Justin Tuck had been looking forward to his ninth postseason game with the Giants and took full advantage of it. His 1.5 sacks were his most in the playoffs since he had 2.0 in Super Bowl XLII against New England.
