Redken Creative Consultant Guido created an update on the ponytail this morning with a casual sideswept look to match the edgy, urban Diesel Black Gold Fall/Winter 2012 collection. The look was all about natural texture with strong lines; a little “grunge” with a boyish twist.
“This style is very tomboyish and I wanted it to appear to be anything but perfect. The girl I had in mind when I created it had certainly done it herself, and is into rock ‘n’ roll- I thought of how Kate Moss might style her hair when she wears jeans. The height at the crown is what really adds a nice dimension, giving it a 60’s feel.”

Create the Look:
1. Saturate damp hair with full frame 07 all-over volumizing mousse.
2. While hair is still wet, pull a half inch section from the left side and arrange into a 2-inch sideburn on the cheek.
3. Guido recommends letting the hair air dry for the optimal natural texture for this style, although he and his team had to use blow dryers (a rough dry) while backstage. While air drying or blow-drying, use fingers and repeatedly pull hair up at the crown to give the style height.
4. Create a deep but natural left part, using fingers instead of a comb.
5. Pull hair into a low pony at the nape of the neck and secure with an elastic, and then loosen hair at the crown for height.
6. Finish with a generous amount of forceful 23 super-strength finishing spray for added hold and texture.
For easy height at the crown an a matte, texturized feel when trying this look at home, try shaking a small amount of Redken’s NEW powder grip 03 mattifying hair powder into the roots for instant volume- apply on dry hair before securing the pony.
