Terrific Takeout: Maffei Pizza
If your grandmother did not make you pizza like that, don't worry because Maffei Pizza will! Maffei Pizza has been an institution of pizza since 1975 and today is proudly run by Dominic:
...his parents started it back then but they have since retired and left it in his good hands. He also has a fantastic sense of humor and a way with the customers that have them coming back for more. You know that we think pizza is one of the four food groups and Grandma's Gourmet Pizza was truly unique and delicious in a city with a pizza place practically on every block. It is deeper than a regular New York pizza but less deep than a Chicago style and its drizzle of olive oil both above and below the crust will have you in love at first bite. Extra virgin olive oil, San Marzano tomatoes and mozzarella combine to form a winner of a base and to that we added pepperoni, onion, pepper and fresh garlic. The fresh garlic in particular was outstanding. We definitely could eat this pizza every day, except it is all the way in Chelsea. This may be our first takeout review from this neighborhood...
Next in the batting order was the Italian House salad.
One look at that and you know you're somewhere with style and pizaaz.
One bite of that and you know this place knows what they are doing.
The tomatoes were fresh. The carrot curls were not only cute but also crispy.
The broccoli had the right amount of crunch.
The dressing was on the side.
What can we say other than that they are perfect here!
If you are an extremely avid reader you know one of the delights of Boston College, where the food was very good, was the chicken parm at lower dining hall. This chicken parm at Maffei absolutely hit the spot and impressed us. It will impress your tastebuds too!
Don't deprive yourself of this pizza one minute more-go to Maffei Pizza as it is most definitely Terrific Takeout!!!
