Terrific Takeout: Sicaffe
Starting your day with the right coffee is so important, and we were delighted to come upon Sicaffe recently. Manager Sabina Kuc knows what she is doing as a barista hence the heart on top which was a lovely harbinger of the emotion you will feel for this specific beverage which has a formal name of Cappuccino Triestino, which is dark and rich as the menu claims.
This is where it all must start:
But back to the coffee. It is harder than you think to find outstanding coffee shops in Manhattan...many streets and avenues are dotted by chains that don't impress us. And you know we love our java and particularly since we went to the coffee fair which we think they should have in New York EVERY year...this IS the city that never sleeps, not Seattle or wherever else they have it. http://www.whomyouknow.com/2012/03/daylight-coffee-fest-new-york-city.html
Even though we did this a couple of weeks ago this is still in the top ten most read articles so apparently our readers love coffee too and we are listening to you, readers, so meet Sicaffe!
There are three distinct flavor layers in this drink: 1/3 is a shot of rich espresso, 1/3 of skim milk (you know Peachy hates fat in her milk), and 1/3 froth.
We also sampled the salmon avocado vegetable sandwich and if we were walking by today we'd order it again! Vegetables included are shredded carrots, lettuce and tomato and on pumpernickel with mayo, this is a hit. The combination of salmon and avocado is brilliant.
If you like granola we hear the next item sells well.
Lofat vanilla yogurt is joined by granola, raisins, almonds, strawberry and green apple, all delicately sliced and resting on top.
Our favorite food item we tried was the grilled chicken mesculan salad, which was better than some of the salads we've had at sit down restaurants even recently. Cherry tomato, avocado (yes guess who likes avocado!) and neatly sliced pieces of chicken are served with an impressive balsamic vinaigrette.
Sicaffe is Terrific Takeout!
