DAYLIGHT: Green Festival, the Largest, Longest-Running Green Consumer Event Made Its New York Debut
Over Earth day weekend, the nation’s largest and most trusted green living event, Green Festival, was held in the North Pavilion of New York’s Javits Center. We were pleased to meet many new faces and Peachy Deegan expanded her horizons in her favorite shade to include not only everything that is from the mother country, Ireland, but also environmentally friendly! Mamma Chia was her favorite new product-new meaning new to her. Kermit tells us it's not easy being green and as he is helping out Mayor Bloomberg these days in promoting New York we had hoped to see him! Maybe in 2013, Kermie.
This eco event brought out a crowd of more than 25,000 participants and included speaker demonstrations by Hip-Hop Mogul Russell Simmons, Activist Amy Goodman, New York Times Best Author Van Jones and Josh Silver, CEO of United Republic, as well as an organic beer and wine pavilion, a Green Economy Expo sponsored by UrbanGoGreen, a sustainable fashion show put on by Conscious Living TV, and the latest and greatest in sustainable products and services such as Mamma Chia, Divine Chocolate, Eco-Me cleaning products and Sprout Watches.
Ford offered ride and drives of their latest electric and hybrid vehicles and awarded a $5,000 grant to NYC-based non-profit, Green City Force, a service corps that prepares young people from low income backgrounds for sustainable careers, while reducing green-house gas emissions, and building the green city
In its first time in New York City, Green Festival made an enormous impact on the sustainable community in the tri-state area and is primed for a strong return in 2013. We hope the 2013 show will be more diverse in background and include more carnivores like Peachy that wear their collars up! We'd like to see a greater emphasis on fashion, aesthetics and on mainstream environmental products. We thought Organic Works PR did a great job.
