Anyone that's read anything recently knows we are on a very, very big French kick from Jacques Pepin:

to the Domaine Houchart Rose:

...the list could go on and on but now we want to tell you about the latest and greatest by Rizzoli, courtesy of Flammarion! We absolutely adore photography and Peachy herself has owned a camera since age 6 (thank you Grammy!) so can truly appreciate all the work that goes into these pictures. If you were in the Miss Pegau class where she tasted the photography chemicals in the dark to make sure what was what, you also will share an appreciation for the quality and detail that these nightlight photographs boast, particularly for their time-1933! This book is a reproduction of an original and as anyone reading this clearly was born too late for that edition, this current edition is a welcome find! We love most: in frame 17 the pure excitement of the night, in frame 24 the embodiment of love, the frame 33 flowers, in frame 41 the late night news, and in frame 57 the pure glory of the Eiffel Tower. Describing this book in verbiage does not do it justice; you must pick up a copy for yourself and for all your francophile friends to put away as gifts to truly appreciate the beauty of the night.

Published for the first time in 1933 and originally designed by Brassaï himself, this is a high-quality reproduction of the photographer’s now-legendary and extremely rare first book of photographs.
Originally from Hungary, Brassaï traveled to Paris in 1924, becoming part of the avant-garde artist community, associating closely with Picasso and the Parisian surrealist circle. Using photography as a tool to document his vision of a dying society, Brassaï established himself as a perceptive observer of nocturnal Parisian life and became known as one of the most original photographers of his generation.
Fascinated by the night, Brassaï photographed its denizens in a signature dreamlike and mysterious style—from policemen to prostitutes, and from the homeless to revelers. This collection, sixty-four iconic images meticulously assembled by Brassaï in 1933, was a significant milestone in the career of this important photographer. With copies of a 1987 edition selling for hundreds of dollars, this fine Flammarion edition will be a welcome addition to the photography book collector’s library.
About the author: Paul Morand (1888–1976) was a French novelist, playwright, poet, diplomat, and academic, and is considered an early modernist.
