READ THIS: The Pirates Next Door By Jonny Duddle

A sleepish town called Dull-on-Sea has no idea what they are in store for. Poor Matilda, a native of Dull, is thrilled to have some excitement come to town especially since friends are few and far between. So no wonder news travels fast when the Jolley-Rogers dock in their driveway. They stir things up with all of their neighbors with their unorthodox ways. However Matilda is intrigued by these neighbor pirates. Slowing but surely the town comes around and gets into the pirate spirit. My daughter loved this book so much she is hoping for pirate neighbors soon!

My preschooler son loves pirates. He has quite a collection of eye patches, pirate hats, hooks, etc.! When I showed him "The Pirates Next Door" by Jonny Duddle, his face lit up. "A pirate book, mom?" he yelled, "Alright!" And so we settled in together on the couch and entered the world of the Jolley-Rogers, a pirate family who is moving to Dull-on-Sea while they fix up their ship. Dull-on-Sea, a quiet seaside town, is less than thrilled with the addition of this new family. There is one person, Matilda, who is accepting of this pirate family and she becomes fast friends with the young pirate, Jim Lad. When the Jolley-Rogers finally head out to sea again, they leave behind something for everyone in town...buried treasure! Maybe that pirate family wasn't so bad after all! This is a really fun read for any child who has a love of pirates!

I cannot believe I've never heard of this story before. I loved it. My students loved it even more. They loved the colorful artwork and the rhyming patterns that emerged throughout the story. What I loved about this book even more was that it was something my boys were interested in. I have a hard time finding books for the boys in my class that they can be interested in. They asked me if I could find more books like this one. It was the first time in a long time I've seen some boys interested in reading. This book is a must have for anyone, young, or young at heart!

The Pirates Next Door is truly a very fun book for all those pirate lovers. First off the book has the most amazing illustrations - anyone will fall in love with the book! This book has such a fun story. Not only does it rhyme but it is also fun. This story also has such sentiment as well. I am very impressed with this talented author. I say this is because it takes an amazing talent to write such a fun vibrant book for children. This is a must have for every little reader!
