MAYOR BLOOMBERG SIGNS LEGISLATION REQUIRING THE DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION TO STUDY THE WATER SUPPLY'S ENERGY GENERATING POTENTIAL Remarks by Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg at a Public Hearing on Local Laws

"The final bill before me is Introductory Number 534-A, sponsored by Council Members Gennaro, Barron, Brewer, Cabrera, Fidler, James, Koppell, Koslowitz, Lander, Palma, Seabrook, Van Bramer, Vann, Williams, Mark-Viverito, Levin, Nelson, Koo, Lappin, Rodriguez, Garodnick, Rivera, Greenfield, Vacca, Vallone, Jackson, Eugene and Halloran. This legislation requires the Department of Environmental Protection undertake a study of our water supply system to determine the potential of generating electricity. The Department will issue a report within eighteen months.
