Arabesque was first featured in Terrific Takeout:
and we liked it, so it graduated to Tasty Tidbits:
Today it has graduated to Peachy's Picks.
Its unique atmosphere, warm service and ability to transport you from New York make this something to check out. Peachy found the wine list to be solid and she sipped on a Cabernet Sauvignon Zelus Italy 2004. The decor of Arabesque is quite fun and you'll feel as though you've been on a magic carpet.
As a starter, she opted for the Mussels Provencal. They are distinctly different from the French ones we've had at some of our favorite French places-because this is not a French venue, it's Moroccan! Sauteed PEI Mussels with garlic, shallots, white wine and fresh herbs were presented beautifully and were quite tender.
As an entree, Peachy tried the Grilled Citrus Tuna. The Tuna was carefully seared to medium, as requested. Served over organic mixed greens, with tomatoes and other fresh vegetables, this is a lovely dish for the warmer weather that we head into. And, the avocado was delicious!
Finished off with chocolate mousse, our Arabesque experience was complete.
Our esteemed panelist says:
The space at Arabesque is enchanting, as myriads of Moroccan
lanterns scatter light patterns throughout the walls and ceilings. The music was relaxing and not too loud, and
this would be a great place for after-work drinks and snacks if you are looking
for a fun atmosphere where you can easily have good conversation with your
companions.
The menu of small plates ranges from staples of hummus and
babaganoush to interesting healthy choices such as quinoa tabouli. I decided to try “Wild Mushroom Cigars”, a
mixture of quite flavorful shitake, crimini and oyster mushrooms wrapped in
phylo dough and served with a dipping sauce.
Each bite was delicious owing to the quality of the ingredients. For my main course I tried the Leg of
Lamb: when the plate arrived I noticed
how fragrant it was!
The lamb was
tender, succulent and not overly salty.
Generous portions of carrots, green beans, mushrooms and broccoli
balanced the dish alongside creamy mashed potatoes, and I really did enjoy
having a good serving of well prepared vegetables. I chose a glass of Sancerre which
complemented the lamb nicely. My dessert
was a sort of Milk Bastilla, layers of crisp, light dough topped with condensed
milk flavored with orange blossom water.
The sweet topping was so good, and this could definitely be shared by
two people. One on my favorite teas is
Moroccan mint tea, and it is always a nice way to finish off a meal with a
relaxing tea poured over fresh mint leaves.
