READ THIS: Demolition By Sally Sutton
The perfect book for little boys! It has great illustrations of all kinds of machines. Matched with the wonderful sounds and grunts you get to make. My one year old son really enjoyed this book. He tried to copy all of the crazy noises and sounds that came out of my mouth. The colors engaged him too.
You know the famous line, "You had me at hello."? Well, for my four and a half year old son, it would be, "You had me at demolition!" As soon as he spotted "Demolition" by Sally Sutton, complete with the excavator knocking down a building on the cover, he was hooked. This book highlights many construction vehicles and much to my preschooler's delight, includes fabulous, descriptive artwork by Brian Lovelock. This is a story of, yes, demolition and is filled with awesome sound words (screech, whump, squirt, etc.) which both you and your child will enjoy saying! While it may not seem like the perfect bedtime story, for my son, it is. It has been in our bedtime storybook rotation since the first time we read it and my guess is it will remain there for quite some time. I highly recommend this book for any child who finds demolition intriguing...they will love it!
The boys in my class love nothing more than to stack things up and then figure out how to make the most mess when demolishing it. When I saw the book, Demolition, I knew this would be a hit with my boys. If I didn't see it with my own eyes, I wouldn't have believed it when I saw a group of boys huddled around this book reading it. It seems like I have a hard time finding books that can hold their interest for very long. This one did. They even asked me if I could find more books just like this one. On Fridays, I usually let my students bring in approved toys from home, and many of my boys brought in toys similar to the machines found in this book so they could recreate a demolition scene. I love when books can inspire kids to use their imaginations and this book did just that!
Demolition really is a fun book for kids. It teaches the children what these demolition machines do. The book has the most absolutely cute illustrations. I love the way the story makes fun sounds with words. Children see the book come to life with words! Both illustrations and words make this book so much fun! It's a must have in every child's library. Oh and not to mention it's great to give as a gift too for all those little readers!
