This is just a truly beautiful book. A book that you can read all at once or pick several pages each night that your children will relish in. Broken down by seasons, there are over 60 poems that will speak to your child. Exquisite illustrations grace each page. This is a great gift to give any child as it will give them an incredible appreciation of nature and the world right outside their window. I love the oversize format which allows the illustrations to shine even more and give plenty of room for both the words and the pictures. This is a book that will make you go WOW and how often does that happen anymore.
"Outside Your Window: A First book of Nature" by Nicola Davies is a beautiful book. Divided into seasons, this book offers so much wonderful information to both parent and child. It is both elegant and informative. A large book, it is not one that is meant to be read all in one sitting. Rather, it seems meant to be read in bits and pieces. The artwork by Mark Hearld is gorgeous. My son and I read parts of Spring as we are in the midst of Spring right now. He loved reading about rainbows and planting seeds. This book is a fabulous addition to our ever growing book collection and would make a special gift for any child. I highly recommend this.
I love being outside. One of my favorite things to do outside is to read books. When I saw the book, Outside Your Window, I was so excited I could share my love of nature and books with my students. I loved the illustrations in this book. It highlighted each season without making it look "cartoon-y" like some other illustrations can. One day during partner reading time, I had several girls want to create a small group instead of partners so they could reread this book. I heard conversations about the different seasons and why each was was their favorite. I love when I hear students talking about the literature in our room in a way that isn't just "I liked it". I highly recommend this book.
Outside Your Window is a gorgeous book. The story and illustrations are so great! Speaking of illustrations they are gorgeous! They are not cartoon-like as most of these children's books can be. I love the way this book is arranged by seasons. It helps children learn and enjoy it while doing so. This book is perfect for any library. This is a must as a gift for any child!
