Red Catuai by Kope Kapea Has Delighted Peachy's Pantry Panelists!
Kope Kapea's Meahuna premium coffee is coffee everyone should have in their home! They are of superior quality: they are better than most other coffees because they are the cream of their crops. The Red Catuai variety is known for having a mild/medium body to it. It is the perfect coffee to have when you get home from your exhausting work day. It has a sweet finish to it with a hint of cardamom that leaves you longing to sip some more! I personally love drinking this coffee on cold, rainy afternoons when I'm off from work and I don't have any plans of changing out of my PJ's. This coffee is certified from the Hawaii Department of Agriculture proving its superior quality. This is yet another great product that was produced right in the USA!
When I think of Hawaiian coffee, my mind immediately goes to Kona. However, I recently tried a different varietal, that I absolutely fell in love with! Kope Kapea's Meahuna Red Cauai is definitely a coffee to sample, if you're a coffee lover! It's lighter-bodied than Kona, but still substantial. There are hints of cardamom and spice, which give it an intriguing flavor, and a complexity belied by the lighter body of the roast. It's a great coffee to start your morning with, as it is pleasant and mild, but still quite flavorful. I tried pairing it with some of the milk chocolate plumerias from Origianl Hawaiian Chocolate, and found the combination to be outstanding! Because of the spice in the flavor, I have a hunch that it would also work well with snickerdoodle cookies - and you can bet I'm going to try that pairing soon!
Sometimes it is fun to mix it up and spice it up and Kope Kapea can do that too. We told you we loved this coffee brand and we are glad we've found another reason to love it. Red Catuai is a type that has a unique spicy flavor that is just enough without getting crazy. Its rich body will delight you and is perfect for tea time, which we are now calling coffee time. Cardamom is a great addition! And we just love that it is made in Hawaii. Quite a different island from Manhattan, though this coffee is essential to keep Manhattan plugging along at the rate we do!

It’s time to get what you pay for. Kope Kapea LLC has created a brand of coffee called MEAHUNA (may-ah-WHO-nah), the Hawaiian word for “secret.” Their cherry-picked collection of single-origin coffees will reinvigorate your palate.
Their artisan roaster has perfected roasting profiles to offer flavor signatures with depth: layered textures, undertones, and hints of natural/organic influences. All offerings are single origin, a single varietal from single plantations.
The MEAHUNA brand includes nine coffees from Hawaii and Jamaica Blue Mountain. Four of them are Peaberry, the bolder nuttier single bean per shade-grown cherry, typically only 3% of the crop. Two are from Kona. The others are from Maui and Kauai, with one a chemical-free 99.9% Decaf. All beans are graded and certified by either the Hawaii Department of Agriculture or the Coffee Board of Jamaica.
The product line (excluding JBM) is grown and harvested in the United States. All varietals are roasted, packaged and labeled locally to ensure peak freshness. The only process performed outside of the USA is decaffeination, which happens in Canada. The grower first sends beans to British Columbia, and then shipped back to Hawaii after the Swiss Water Process is complete.
