Peachy Rabbits: Great Lakes Rabbit Sanctuary
Since 1995 Great Lakes Rabbit Sanctuary (GLRS) has provided a safe haven for abandoned, abused, and neglected domestic rabbits as well as other animals. As you know, Peachy's most favorite animal ever are bunny rabbits. Formerly named “PigHoppers,” in 2003 they decided the overwhelming need in the area was to provide for domestic rabbits in particular. As a result, they changed the name and focus.
They rescue rabbits from all across Michigan, and when able, from other areas of the United States as well. After their arrival at GLRS, the rabbits are given proper medical care if necessary, spayed or neutered, and are then ready to meet their potential people to adopt them! GLRS is a no-kill facility. Those rabbits who are not eligible for adoption, either due to health or temperament, live out their lives peacefully at the sanctuary.
People can always visit the facility and become active volunteers with care for the animals or the property which is a 5 acre responsibility as well. The biggest need is always monetary contributions.
They tell us they are a non-profit business and are responsible for employee wages, mortgage payments, vet bills, feed bills and everything else it takes to make the business run and insure the animals are well cared for.
The biggest fundraiser is mailing list donations, so another way to help and keep caught up with what is going on around the sanctuary is to sign up for our enews letter and the hard copy mailing on the web site.
