Buy Local, Drink Everywhere! The Peconic Bay Winery on the North Fork is a great local vineyard to support. They have palate-pleasing wines that are traditionally produced with high quality grapes. The Red Label Lot #3 was a real treat. Lot #3 was clearly a lot that got much sun and great soil. So silky, it coated my tongue and throat going down. Strong notes of blackberry and raspberry are tasted. Also, when sniffed, the aromas were outstanding and pleasing. This wine would be great with spicy foods: especially Indian dishes. Peconic Bay does a great job of doing food pairings at their vineyard and I invite you to go out to some of their special events. Plus, better to try and buy their to get the full experience. Plus, the gift shop has lots of wonderful products made locally showing their care about their market.
Red wine is one of my favorite wines. When I saw the 2010 Peconic Bay Winery Red Label Lot #3, I knew I would love it! I was not wrong. I could immediately smell black cherries and tobacco. I also was able to pick up hints of freshly sharpened pencils, which is one of my favorite smells. I had just made some quick marinara sauce and pasta to pair with this wine. It was perfect. With a blend of 35% 2010 Merlot, 32.5% Cabernet Franc, and 32.5% 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon, it combines all my favorites into one. Since I am almost on summer vacation, I had a few friends over for my pasta dinner as an early celebration and shared this wine with them as well. They loved it just as much as I did. For dessert, I had red velvet cupcakes to help finish off the wine. This is going to be one of my new favorite summer wines. I know what I will be bringing with me to summer pitch-ins. I highly recommend it!
I am a huge fan of "blends". I often seek out a blend when I am looking to try a new wine. The Peconic Bay Winery Red Label Lot #3 is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine is bold and has a great flavor. The mix of the different grapes really play well off each other and creates a unique taste. This wine would go well with an Italian meal, or a steak. It is the epitome of what a red wine should be. After I let the wine breathe a little, the flavor got better and it became much easier to drink. The wine is delicious and really would work well with a meal or with a cheese plate. This is definitely wine you drink with a stinky cheese! I also think this wine could be a drink you serve to your guests who simply don't enjoy drinking white wines. I definitely recommend this bottle to anyone who enjoys a good glass of wine.

The Peconic Bay Winery “Red Label Lot #3” is the third in a series of small production red blends created by winemaker Greg Gove. Each Red Label is a different cuvée, featuring a superior selection of barrels that are particularly soft and approachable, but complex and pleasing. Every Red Label is different and numbered sequentially. While Lot #3 is the most current release, Lots #4 through #8 have already been created as well and will be released over the next several months. The stellar 2010 growing season has been bottled in this blend #3: The nose is reminiscent of black cherry, black plum, tobacco, pencil shavings, and a light earth and quinine note. The tannins are particularly ripe and savory and the wine is quite big in the mouth. Similar to traditional St. Emilion wines, this new Long Island favorite will pair well with grilled foods, blue cheeses and heartier meals.
