Is there anything that gets your heart racing more than the sight and sound of a great American car?  Of course!  Driving one!  But when you're not behind the wheel, you can be reading about these beauties and admiring them from a distance thanks to our friends at Merrell Publishing, who adore American cars from across the pond in England.  Note: this makes an excellent Father's Day gift!

In the 1890's the bicycle craze was huge, but by 1900 it was over with the beginning of the car!  In 1901 Olds Motorworks planned to market a line of gasoline and electric vehicles, and all the history you'll learn in this work is commendable.  We're not going to tell you all of it because of course we want you to purchase the book!  The photography is phenomenal, and early on, the 1903 Red Cadillac Model A is simply divine, launched at the New York Auto Show, we might add. That show has been going on for ages!

By 1913, Ford introduced the first moving assembly line and all of you know what that did!  More cars!  Faster!  More Efficiently!

We like the presentation a lot: the format is pristine and easy to follow, and best of all, attractive to the eye.  Every photograph will impress you.  The history is incredible and stats and details on each vehicle are terrific.  The book is in chronological order with every few years punctuated by a  unique auto that will wow you.  You'll learn that Tin Lizzie is more than just a bar on Second Avenue...

The 3 P's of the Gilded Age is another term you'll add to your auto knowledge.  Even during the depression, luxury cars were produced as car brands were desperate to not lose their market share, though the overall market was of course shrinking.  On page 115 you'll learn an interesting tidbit on the stock car version of the 1935 Auburn 851 Speedster (the gorgeous car featured on the cover) in regards to its adventures at Bonneville.

Peachy's favorite car, the Corvette, debuted in 1953 as you know and the book concludes with the 2008 model!  At the end, the names behind the legends in short biography form provide the final finishing touch that is just perfect.

Whom You Know Highly Recommends American Auto Legens: Classics of Style and Design!  It's another hit by Merrell!
