Chadwick the Crab is at it again in his latest debut of “Chadwick Forever”. As Chadwick learns of his friends' dismay of being listed as an endangered species, he knows that he has another big task in front of him. Leading the way, he calls a meeting to see how he and in friends in the Bay can help. Ironically, as one species of animal is dwindling, another is bountiful. As Chadwick and his blushing crab bride are expecting, it is hard for them to keep the news quiet even during this disturbing time. With over 2 million eggs laid, crabs are in no shortage these days.
I love how Chadwick Forever starts after Chadwick and Esmeralda return from their honeymoon. It begins with their friend Hester the Delmarva Fox Squirrel upset and throwing her household items out of her tree. Hester is upset because she just learned her species is endangered. When she talks to Chadwick about it, he becomes upset as well and calls a meeting. This book is wonderful to help teach young readers about the concept of endangered species and what we can do to help them. It's so important to teach our students about all the creatures that live on our planet and how they help our environment. This book does an excellent job at providing a springboard for that topic. I love when I can find books that can help spark various units of study and I know Chadwick Forever will do that for my students.
Chadwick Forever is one of the best books - I really love it! This crab is the most popular one there can be. The story is very well-written. It teaches children about different creates in the wild life. Also, it teaches them about the beauty of the environment. The illustrations are beautiful. The story and the illustrations tie together perfectly. Every child should have this book in their library.
Priscilla Cumming's "Chadwick Forever" is longer than her other books, but still held the attention of my five year old (although not in one sitting). Chadwick is back with his usual gang of friends in the Chesapeake Bay. This time they are worried about their friend, Hester, the Delmarva fox squirrel. Hester has discovered that she is on the endangered species list. This is a story of friendship, love and compassion (frequent themes in the Chadwick books). I love how these books educate our children. My son loves listening to the Chadwick stories and always has great questions to ask while we are reading. Ms. Cummings teaches the children about caring for our environment and the animals that live in it. Brava to her for centering her stories around important life lessons while making them accessible and interesting to children. We love Chadwick the Crab and all his friends. "Chadwick Forever" is right!

Chadwick the Crab and Bernie the Sea Gull are worried that they’re going to lose a good friend forever. Hester, a Delmarva fox squirrel, has discovered a book telling her she is on the endangered species list. Not only that, a mysterious monster is lurking around Shady Creek. All this happens just when Chadwick and Esmerelda are getting ready to welcome their family home.
