Being in a mixed marriage, I am Yankees fan and my husband a Red Sox fanatic, I passed this book on to him to read to our son. Ted Williams, known as the greatest hitter of his time, is introduced to a new set of fans. The writing is great for children in showing them the biographical timeline of his life starting from a young boy. From his determination to grow up strong by eating well and staying fit to practicing every chance he can get, clearly he sets a great example. You get to experience his life the way children can understand. Then through his time during the war and playing for the Red Sox Children get the entire picture. A perfect book to read to any baseball enthusiast.
I am always on the lookout for books that my male students would love to read. When I saw There Goes Ted Williams, I knew I had to have it for my classroom library. I was not disappointed. The boys will love this book because it tells about how Ted Williams became a baseball player to going to war in WWII and Korea as a fighter pilot. There are so many activities I can create from this book! It's many different history lessons wrapped into one engaging book. I can't wait for school to start so I can not only introduce this awesome book to my students, but to start teaching history in a fun way. I know I will be telling many of my teacher friends about this book. I highly recommend it!
There Goes Ted Williams is a wonderful book about a baseball play and fighter pilot. I think this book is wonderful. The story behind it has so much to tell. It really gets you into the book. The young reader won't be able to put this book down. The book also has amazing illustrations. I really love the way the pictures bring the story to life. It really is a great read.
Coming from a long line of Yankee fans, reading a book about a Red Sox player normally would be unheard of! When that Red Sox player is Ted Williams though, an exception can be made. "There Goes Ted Williams: The Greatest Hitter Who Ever Lived" by Matt Tavares is the story of an American hero. As a child, Ted Williams wanted one thing...to hit a baseball better than anyone else. He practiced his swing, he exercised, he ate and he dreamed. This book is a wonderful biography that is sure to inspire your child. The artwork is simple and clean and really compliments the story. You and your child are sure to enjoy reading this little piece of American sports history together...I know my son and I sure did!
Note: Peachy Deegan previously interned for WEEI in Boston, WBZ in Boston and at the time she wrote for Boston Baseball, she was the only girl ever to have written for it. She does love the Red Sox.

Ted Williams lived a life of dedication and passion. He was an ordinary kid who wanted one thing: to hit a baseball better than anyone else. So he practiced his swing every chance he got. He did fingertip push-ups. He ate a lot of food. He practiced his swing again. And then practiced it some more. From his days playing ball in North Park as a kid to his unmatched .406 season in 1941 to his heroic tours of duty as a fighter pilot in World War II and Korea, the story of Teddy Ballgame is the story of an American hero. In this engrossing biography, a companion to Henry Aaron's Dream, Matt Tavares makes Ted Williams's life story accessible to a whole new generation of fans who are sure to admire the hard work, sacrifice, and triumph of the greatest hitter who ever lived. A lively picture book biography of Ted Williams from a master of the genre - just in time for Fenway Park's centennial.
