There are a lot of people who are struggling these days. But with hard work and dedication, those who are struggling can make ends meet and sometimes turn everything around. “Tia Isa Wants a Car” is about a woman who has come to the United States to change her situation. Not only does she have to support herself but her family here and back in her own country as well. As she used to live by the sea she more than anything wanted a way to hit the beach and remember the beautiful home she once had. But no matter how hard she works, she cannot quite save enough to buy a car and still send money home to her family. This tale of hard work and everyone pitching in goes straight to the heart. This happy ending feel good book is great for all age young and old!
If you want to teach your child about the importance of family, compassion and familial love, read Meg Medina's "Tia Isa Wants a Car". Tia Isa wants a car, but she doesn't have the money to purchase one. Tia Isa knows what she wants and works hard to achieve her goal. She saves every bit of money that she makes and divides it into two piles- one to send back to her family and one to save for her car. Little does she know that her niece begins doing small jobs around the neighborhood and saves her money for Tia Isa. One day, the niece surprises her aunt and gives her the money she's been saving. There is such joy when Tia Isa is able to purchase the car she so badly wanted. "Tia Isa Wants a Car" expresses the lovely sentiment of putting family first, a sentiment that needs to be shared with our children. Family is the center of Meg Medina's tale and I loved sharing this book with my five year old son. I highly recommend this wonderfully touching tale.
Teaching children how to save money is a tough job. After I read Tia Isa Wants a Car, I knew this would be a perfect book to help explain the importance of saving money. The story begins by letting readers know that Tia Isa knows what she wants, and what she wants is a green car so she can drive to the beach. She's been saving her money from the bakery she works at, but can't save fast enough. With the help of her niece, will Tia Isa be able to save enough to get the car she wants. Since it's the beginning of the school year for me, one of the first things my second graders are working on in math is money. Since we haven't started our money unit yet, I know how I will introduce the topic of money to my students. I plan on telling the other second grade teachers on my team about this wonderful book to help us during our math time.
Tia Isa wants a car is such an awesome book. I love the story and think it's a great book for children to read of all ages. Tia Isa wants to buy a car but doesn't have the money to do so. Her niece finds a way to make it happen! Together the two have enough money to get a nice big old car to transport the entire family around. It's a great story to teach children how to save, help and support one another. The illustrations are simply beautiful and tell the story with images. It's a must have for every child's library.

Tía Isa wants a car. A shiny green car the same color as the ocean, with wings like a swooping bird. A car to take the whole family to the beach. But saving is hard when everything goes into two piles - one for here and one for Helping Money, so that family members who live far away might join them someday. While Tía Isa saves, her niece does odd jobs for neighbors so she can add her earnings to the stack. But even with her help, will they ever have enough? Meg Medina’s simple, genuine story about keeping in mind those who are far away is written in lovely, lyrical prose and brought to life through Claudio Muñoz’s charming characters. A little girl pitches in to help her tía save up for a big old car - and take the whole family to the beach - in a story told with warmth and sweetness.
