Lighthouses are structures of manmade beauty that dot the seashore. In particular, those that line the East coast of the U.S. are especially beautiful. They stimulate the imagination. They remind us of older and simpler times. Each one has its own unique story and history. Lighthouses: Maine to Florida, by David Biggy captures of the stories of lighthouses up and down the East coast in stunning photographs. Each page of this large hardcover book is filled with photos of lighthouses and ocean scenery that will absolutely take your breath away. All the lighthouses are categorized by state too, so you can find your favorite lighthouse in your favorite state! I grew up in Connecticut, and seeing the photograph of the lighthouse that marks the entrance of the Connecticut River in Old Saybrook is particularly nostalgic for me. This is an excellent addition to my library, and I look forward to showing it to all my friends and family! It would be a perfect gift for anyone you are close to, or even for yourself!

I have always loved lighthouses. I think that is because I grew up in New England surrounded by lighthouses. It is funny to think that my favorite lighthouse of all time is the little red one that sits underneath the George Washington Bridge in the Washington Heights section of Manhattan. The book Lighthouses features my little red lighthouse. This book is full of beautiful photographs and amazing historical facts of all of the lighthouses pictured. The book follows the Eastern Coast from Maine to Florida and the amount of lighthouses pictured is amazing. I had no idea there were so many! I definitely recommend this beautiful book. It is actually a perfect housewarming gift, especially for those who live on a coast. You will not be disappointed.

Lighthouses are so iconic. Wherever you are visiting, it is something that you seek out to get closer. My children always shout out when we spot one as we cruise through the ocean. They have such history and meaning. They are now more like architectural gems having their job replaced by GPS. With over 200 lighthouses showcased in this book, you can see why so many care about preserving them. The photography is this book is stunning and each one has such great characteristics. A perfect book for your coffee table. Schiffer Books has definitely produced a high quality book that will delight you.

One of my favorite things to see when I'm visiting the east coast are lighthouses. I especially love to see them when the backdrop is a sunset. The photographs of these beautiful beacons of light are outstanding. While I know of why they are a necessity around the shore, I had no idea about what it takes to preserve them. While I've seen many lighthouses in New England and Florida, it was nice to see photographs from all the states lining the east coast. After reading about these different places, I can't wait to go visit. Some of my favorites just by looking have to be in North Carolina. I've already talked to a few of my friends about planning trips in the near future to visit some of these lighthouses. If you know of anyone who loves lighthouses, this is a perfect book for them. I highly recommend it!

Lighthouses: Maine to Florida, shows us that The United States’ East Coast is rich in maritime history, including a wide array of beautiful lighthouses that mark areas laden with dangerous shoals, shallow points, and rocky bluffs. They mark points of particular concern for mariners traveling the nearby waters. While lighthouses' existence as navigational aids has diminished since the eras when they were constructed, these proud sentinels remain popular attractions of historical significance. The beacons stand as symbols of strength against the forces of nature and relentless power of the sea in each locale they protect. Throughout this unforgettable journey from Maine to Florida, you'll enjoy 200 stunning images and be inspired to take driving trips of your own. You will see what makes a lighthouse such an attractive object of affection for those who care about them and help keep them shining. A state-by state list of the organizations that preserve them is included. The beautiful photography of these beacons is a story in itself, one that may change your view of lighthouses forever.
