BONHAMS APPOINT EMMMA DALLA LIBERA AS ITS REPRESENTATIVE IN ROME

Emma Dalla Libera has been appointed as Bonhams representative in Rome from November 5th.

Emma is a qualified architect. Born in Padua, she graduated from I.U.A.V. [Istituto Universitario di Architettura di Venezia] in April 1999 and was licensed as an architect under the Italian Law by the same university two months later.

At university she focused on history of art, history of architecture, design and drawing. After graduating she worked as a designer, free hand, technical & CAD draughtsman, and architectural model maker on behalf of several private architectural and engineering firms in the north east of Italy. Design and decoration of domestic interiors are still her great passion.

In 2001 she moved to Milan to do an internship at an international auction house which then offered her a permanent post and she worked for six years in Valuations and Business Development.

She then joined Open Care - Servizi per l'Arte, an art facilities center offering integrated services for the management, valuation and conservation, of private and public artistic heritage. As a general valuer and art consultant she worked on evaluation and on the sale of works of art and collectibles, including jewellery, wines, and watches. She was a main contact with local and international auction houses. The activity included advice on conservation and restoration, and full assistance in the request of statement of authenticity or attribution of the works of art. Occasionally, she was also part of a team in charge of organizing and setting up private art exhibitions. As a decorative arts specialist, she was a member of the team in charge of cataloguing, digitalising and evaluating art collections for insurance, inheritance and sale purposes. Key clients included major Italian banks, private and corporate Italian clients.

In Sept. 2009 she moved to London to do the MA in Decorative Arts and Historic Interiors at The University of Buckingham/School of Humanities in partnership with the Wallace Collection. She concentrated on the development of interiors and decorative arts in England and France in the 18thCentury (c.1660-1830), and their subsequent rediscovery and reinterpretation in the 19th and 20thCenturies.

She intends to do a PhD in the use of colours in French interiors, and in particular on the work of house painters in 18th Century France.
