CEA Donates $50,000 to American Red Cross in Support of Hurricane Sandy Relief Efforts

The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)® today announced a $50,000 donation to the American Red Cross Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund. The contribution will help offset costs of supplies, food, shelter and other assistance for the communities impacted by the storm. The announcement came during the 2013 International CES® New York Press Preview event held today in New York City. The International CES, the world’s largest annual innovation event, is owned and produced by CEA.
“Along with so many other Americans, many of CEA’s member companies, their employees and communities located in the Northeast are suffering from Hurricane Sandy’s devastating impact,” said Gary Shapiro, CEA’s president and CEO. “Today CEA joins our members and other technology companies that have made generous contributions to the recovery efforts. We thank the American Red Cross for the hard work and dedication of all their workers and volunteers.”
Previously, CEA supported the Red Cross in its relief efforts following Hurricane Katrina in 2005, the Chinese earthquake in 2010, and the Japanese tsunami in 2011. Today’s donation represents CEA’s largest charitable contribution to the American Red Cross to date.
CEA encourages those interested in helping Hurricane Sandy relief efforts to make a $10 donation by texting REDCROSS to 90999. For additional information on the American Red Cross relief efforts and how to help, please visit the Hurricane Sandy donation page.
