The dress sold for an unprecedented $480,000 in a day marked by solid global demand for Hollywood memorabilia from every era. Crowds gathered early during the two-day auction event held at Julien’s Auctions Beverly Hills Gallery while phone bids from around the world remained constant throughout the day and evening.
Highlights from the highly anticipate event included the ultimate in Hollywood cool, Steve McQueen’s Racing Jacket which sold for $50,000 and Jaclyn Smith’s Charlie Angel’s dress from the popular series of the 1970s-1980s which sold for $15,000 and a pair of clear plastic glasses worn by Jean Reno in Leon: The Professional Sunglasses sold for $8,320 The eyes also had it when the Johnny Depp Dark Shadows Sunglasses came up for bid and sold for $3,250 to a bidder in the house.
The Blues Brothers John Belushi prop watch sold for $15,000 while The Blues Brothers John Belushi Sunglasses sold for $16,640. A Jayne Mansfield Cat Print Jumpsuit sold for $16,250, the Julie Andrews Sound of Music dress sold for $38,400, The Sunday B. Morning Marilyn Monroe Portfolio after Andy Warhol sold for $7,500, a group of five Marilyn Monroe copyright and negatives sold for $6,500 while the Marilyn Monroe purple skirt worn by the actress in Canada while filming River of No Return sold for an astonishing $50,000. The Marilyn Monroe Gold Ensemble sold for $43,750. The Tallulah Bankhead diamond earrings sold for $6,875 and the Tallulah Bankhead Star of Finland Brooch sold for $8,125. The Wizard of Oz Keybook, Continuity and Publicity Images sold for $33,750.
Cake from the royal weddings took in royal prices as PawnUp.com representatives bid high and bid often to obtain both the Prince Charles and Princess Diana Wedding Cake which sold for $1,375 and Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding cake which sold well over the estimate at $7,500.
