Take a Trip to London Meets Gracious Galleries: Whom You Know Kicks Off Coverage of Gallery 8 at 8 Duke Street St. James's SW1Y 6BN London, United Kingdom
Gallery 8 is run primarily as an exhibition space for hire, and was born out of a renovation by its owners, previously of Asian Art Gallery. After renovation, Céline Gauld founded Gallery 8 and now also has the flexibility to set up joint venture projects with young curators and dealers promote emerging artists using the Gallery 8 premises.
In celebration of Chinese New Year, Milla Lozanova of ML Contemporary and Céline are pleased to present the inaugural show of Thysa Zevenbergen, an overview of the artist’s practice over the last two years. The exhibition will feature Zevenbergen’s latest series of Hong Kong cityscapes, as well as her urban landscapes of London and Amsterdam. The gallery space will also serve as an artist residence, where Zevenbergen will transport her Amsterdam studio and continue to create works in situ.
Zevenbergen’s evocative works weave a delicate balance between abstract and realist representation of architectural landscapes. Her work is executed primarily in the realm of photography, enhanced through the use of additional materials.
Dutch-born artist, Thysa Zevenbergen (b. 1987) grew up in Utrecht, Paris and New Jersey before going on to obtain her BA in Fine Art Education from the ‘Academie voor Beeldende Vorming’ department of the Amsterdamse Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in 2010. In the process she spent a semester of studies at Pratt Institute of Arts in New York. She now lives and works in Amsterdam.
