One of the most coveted watches of all time, the Rolex Daytona turns 50 this year. As the iconic watch reaches middle age, the Daytona model has never been more appealing or more in demand. Named after the Daytona 500 car race and known as the “Holy Grail” of collectible timepieces, it is a watch lover’s dream. Antiquorum Auctioneers is pleased to offer a collection of fourteen outstanding examples in its upcoming May 12th auction in Geneva.
Almost unknown to Rolex collectors until recently, the Rolex Ref. 6263 Gold Daytona “Paul Newman” with prototype lemon dial with white graphics is one of the rarest and most sought-after Daytona’s to ever have appeared on the auction market. Made in the late 1960’s and offered in pristine condition, the exceptional wristwatch would be an outstanding addition to any Rolex collection and is estimated at CHF 300,000 – 500,000.
Also on the auction block is the extraordinary Rolex Daytona Ref. 6269/8 Diamond Cosmograph Oman with diamond bezel and diamond and sapphire dial. Custom ordered and made in extremely small numbers (only 2 others have surfaced on the market to date) this example is possibly unique due to its caseback with the Sultan of Oman sword logo. As this watch has remained unworn in a safe, it is without a doubt the best ever example of the 6269 to be offered at auction. It is estimated at CHF 300,000 – 500,000.
Sought after by collectors across the globe, the Rolex Ref. 6239 Paul Newman” in steel is bound to get Rolex fans hearts racing. Produced in 1968 and offered with a pre-auction estimate of CHF 55,000 – 75,000, this example represents an excellent opportunity to own an important part of Rolex history.
Also amongst the exceptional collection is the Rolex Ref. 6240 retailed by Tiffany & Co. in stainless steel. This extremely rare model produced in 1965 features a round-button chronograph, registers, tachometer and an anti-reflective bezel graduated to 200 units per hour. It is offered at CHF 45,000 – 65,000.
