A hot spot near the Empire State Building, O'Reilly's has been around since the 1970's and is family-owned.  The new generation has revamped the venue, giving the second floor a look and feel of fine dining, even if you are going to be drinking Magners-which as everyone Irish knows is Bulmer's in County Cork.  Peachy started off her O'Reilly's experience with this lovely Irish cider, and some Guinness-Vidalia Onion Soup.  O'Reilly's was first featured in Tasty Tidbits:
and we are pleased to announce they have joined the ranks of Peachy's Picks.
The mozzarella combined with the generous chunks of onion hit the spot.  Gruyere-Parmesean croutons come to the party and we think they could dare to add even more Guinness to enhance the flavor.  Guinness is good for you after all-the toucan even says so.
O'Reilly's has a strong menu for dinner between the main plates and the Irish comforts.  Peachy Deegan opted for the 28-day Dry Aged New York Strip Steak (14oz).  The steak was thick and juicy and grilled just right: absolutely superb for a place that many may think is just a bar if you walk in at street level and do not venture upstairs to the 2nd floor-which is what you want to do!  Mayor Bloomberg see we got in not only one but two green vegetables-broccoli and asparagus-they were fresh and crisp.  The devil on Peachy's shoulder coveted the onion rings and they did not last long.  Fantastic!
We love to have options: note this steak comes with peppercorn sauce and gaelic sauce-Jameson included!
Our waiter Rachel was terrific all night and did not miss a trick.  A sip of Jameson, a good cappuccino and a brownie a la mode made the night complete.  Peachy Deegan really liked the attention to creativity in lighting throughout O'Reilly's.
Our esteemed panelist adds:
I enjoyed dinner at O’Reilly’s Bar + Kitchen. We were seated in the upstairs dining room and it was a quiet, moderately lit space with a creative display of bulbs hanging from decorative light fixtures in the rear of the room. Our waitress was cheerful, talkative and very attentive the entire evening.
I started with the BBQ Pork Sliders. They were prepared with caramelized onions, chunks of pulled pork and a moderate amount of bar-b-que sauce served between warm, soft, sweet roll buns. They had a tangy flavor and were quite yummy. I ordered a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon that had a bold, oaky taste and was a good pairing with the sliders.
I selected my entree from the “weekend specials” menu. I had the pan seared fresh salmon and it was served with avocado mango salsa and fingerling potato salad. The salmon was lightly seasoned with black peppercorns and cooked medium-well to retain the juices. The potato salad was slightly creamy and a nice compliment for the salmon.
I ordered the Strawberry Napoleon for desert. The dish had layers of puff pastry served with slices of strawberries and real cream. Since it was prepared in-house earlier in the day, it tasted very fresh and was a light, delicious treat.
I really enjoyed the food and the dining experience was nice. I will certainly have dinner there in the future, especially given the restaurant’s proximity to the Empire State Building and the wonderful shopping landmark, Macy’s.
