DISH Network’s Joseph Clayton and Best Buy’s Mike Mohan Appointed to CEA’s Board of Industry Leaders

The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)® today announced that Jay McLellan, chairman of CEA’s Board of Industry Leaders (BIL) and president of Leviton Security & Automation, has appointed Joseph Clayton, president and CEO of DISH Network, and Mike Mohan, president, home of Best Buy Co., to fill vacant positions on CEA’s BIL. The BIL is comprised of 45 consumer technology industry leaders and serves CEA and its Executive Board in an advisory role, helping to set priorities for association activities and industry public policy positions. CEA’s BIL members have broad experience in the consumer electronics (CE) industry, have been active in CEA activities and represent the industry’s interests at large.

“I am pleased to appoint these two leaders of the industry to the CEA BIL,” said McLellan. “Both lead top companies, both have excellent reputations and both have agreed to step up and help serve the industry.”

Clayton, a former chairman of CEA, is a 40-year veteran of the CE, telecommunications and satellite communications industries. Prior to joining DISH in 2011, Clayton previously served as CEO of Sirius Satellite Radio, president of Global Crossing North America, president and CEO of Frontier Corporation, executive vice president of marketing and sales for the Americas and Asia of Thomson S.A. He also enjoyed a distinguished 25-year career at RCA. Throughout his career, he has been instrumental in the discovery, and launch and marketplace success of several breakthrough CE technologies including the VCR and DVD players. He also shepherded the launch of DirectTV, high-definition TV (HDTV) and satellite radio. For these accomplishments, Clayton was inducted into the CE Hall of Fame in 2008.

“Honored as a 2013 Digital Patriot by CEA, Joe is a passionate champion of technology. He has constantly challenged the status quo and led the development of new business models, services and products by embracing innovation and the consumer,” said Gary Shapiro, president and CEO, CEA. “As a past CEA chairman, we are pleased he will once again serve in a leadership position for our organization.”

Mike Mohan brings to the BIL 25 years of CE experience and leadership in advancing business growth, profitability, market share and customer satisfaction. In his current position, Mohan oversees a broad range of technology products and services and is accountable for the direction of Best Buy’s home business group in the U.S. Before joining Best Buy, Mohan served as vice president and general merchandise manager for Good Guys, an audio/video specialty retailer with 71 stores in the western United States. Prior to joining Good Guys in 1997, Mohan worked at Canada-based Future Shop in various positions, departing as senior category manager for audio, responsible for Future Shop’s expansion in Canada and entry into the U.S. market.

“Mike’s vast experience and exemplary leadership will be a crucial asset to the BIL,” said Shapiro. “His proven successes will provide key guidance and direction helping to advance the CE industry.”

The call for BIL nominations is open until June 17, 2013. The Nominating Committee of the CEA Executive Board reviews these nominations and proposes a slate to the membership. Industry leaders are elected during the annual fall general membership meeting and may serve for a term of up to three years.
