If you have read us before, you know the above maxim rings true. Owner of The Ellington, Glenda Sansone (from County Meath, Ireland) has really impressed us with our takeout experience at The Ellington, which is a new spot open for three months near St. John's Cathedral in the north part of the Upper West side.
Not only was she busy opening the restaurant, but also Glenda had a baby coinciding with it proving she really is superwoman. We are thrilled to find a new spot with Irish and English food because after all, you know who is Irish and English. The cocktail sausages, above, served with spicy English mustard which is a secret family recipe from English manager Roger are total winners with succulent taste and flavor. They are perfect to eat while you are watching the Stanley Cup playoffs.
Beautifully presented (and you know we adore the pink and green color combination) is the Asparagus and Prosciutto salad. Served over arugula with a tantalizing lemon vinaigrette, this is a lovely way to get your salad in. Everything was in proper bite size pieces, and it was all very fresh.
Without a doubt the piece de resistance at The Ellington is the fish and chips. There aren't many places that can do this dish properly on this side of the pond, and we pride ourselves on knowing the difference as Peachy once resided in both Ireland and England. Breaded perfectly, Beer battered cod, thick cut fries, and minted peas will absolutely hit the spot. We hope to tell you more as we are intrigued with this new hotspot! The Ellington is Terrific Takeout.
