Cooper, Kleinendorst to help U.S. at WJC camp. We Believe in Miracles Go USA Hockey!
News today from
NHL.com ...we do remember a Scot Kleinendorst who played for Hartford:
Tampa Bay Lightning coach Jon Cooper and Iowa Wild coach Kurt Kleinendorst will serve as assistant coaches during USA Hockey's National Junior Evaluation Camp.
The camp, the first step in picking the team that will represent the United States at the 2014 IIHF World Junior Championship, will be held Aug. 3-10 in Lake Placid, N.Y.
Cooper will start his first full season with the Lightning after replacing Guy Boucher in the middle of last season. Cooper has won championships in the American Hockey League and United States Hockey League.
Kleinendorst, hired recently to coach the Minnesota Wild's American Hockey League affiliate, has been a coach at all levels of hockey, including the 2009-10 season when he coached the United States National Team Development Program's under-18 team, and coached the U.S. team to a gold medal at the 2010 World Under-18 Championship.
The pair will help Don Lucia, who will coach the team at the 2014 WJC, as well as his assistant coaches Bob Motzko and Greg Brown.
USA Hockey invited 44 players to begin the process of competing for spots on the WJC team, and for the first four days the roster will be divided in half. Motzko will coach Team Blue, with Cooper assisting him, while Brown will coach Team White, with Kleinendorst assisting him.
