Bookbinder's Irish Potato-Leek Soup Earns Whom You Know's Highest Recommendation. Take a Trip to Ireland in Your Stomach!

With my ancestral roots firmly planted in Ireland, it is no wonder I am a huge fan of potatoes. I love potatoes in all forms! One of the best ways to eat potatoes is in potato and leek soup. It can be a bit of a task to make, but thankfully Bookbinder Specialties has taken all the hard work out of this great soup! They have bottled up their version of Irish Potato-Leek soup, a modern take on an old Irish family recipe. It is chock full of all natural and gluten free ingredients, and all you have to do is open the jar and heat it up. You would not believe this stuff came from a bottle. It tastes just like homemade!

My Granny was born in Belfast and lived there until she was in her early twenties at which point she moved to the United States. That being said, my family is pro-Irish anything! Needless to say, I was thrilled to try Bookbinder's Irish Potato Leek soup. Old Original Bookbinder's restaurant has been a part of Philadelphia's history since 1865. For those of us who can't make it to the restaurant, we are in luck as their soups, breadcrumbs and seasonings are available for purchase in specialty and grocery stores nationwide. My six year old son and I shared Bookbinder's Irish Potato Leek soup over lunch one day and we both loved it! A Vegetarian, modern version of an old family recipe from Ireland, this soup is absolutely delicious. Smooth, creamy, full of flavor, this is a perfect soup for a chilly Autumn evening!

For those readers familiar with the French vichysoisse, a cold soup made from potato and leek, you're in for a treat. The Bookbinder's Specialties Irish Potato Leek is a horse of a different color. Puree the potatoes, and sauté the leeks, but beyond that, the flavor, texture, and the taste are unique. It must be a touch of the Irish in there, because this soup is rich, and meaty, with no meat in here. This soup would be wonderful served cold, with a bit of cream, chopped chives, and great bread. Warmed, you can use it a base for your favorite summer soup, or fill it with root vegetables and make a hearty meal for Fall. The potatoes are creamy, and the leek gives the layers needed for that deep, intense delicious flavor. Bookbinders is a name familiar with my family, since we're from the Philadelphia area. With more than a century behind them of history and tradition, it's natural that their product line should represent their excellent cuisine. Available for your own kitchen, this new selection of mostly vegetarian, and all gluten free soups are ready, right from the jar, or they can be used as a great foundation to a complicated meal.

“We’re a small company focused on providing the ultimate in quality and convenience for our customers,” said Colin O’Neil, Bookbinder’s New Business Manager. “We recognize there is a growing need for great tasting, healthy foods that can be easily prepared. Furthermore, Celiac disease and gluten sensitivity are increasing and many people need a range of healthy and great tasting alternatives.”

Bookbinder Specialties will be showcasing two food service products, their brand-new, all-natural and gluten-free New England Clam Chowder and their legendary Snapper (turtle) Soup. Their award winning line of all natural, gluten free, ready-to-serve vegetable soups, in 15 oz glass jars will also be on display.

The first four flavors in the gourmet line, which were introduced in 2010, were awarded a gold medal in the 2011-2012 Gourmet Products Awards. Dozens of food judges, including VIPs, celebrity chefs, professional consultants and specialty retail store owners, selected the Bookbinder soup line as the best new gourmet product in the Soup, Stews and Beans category. The four original flavors included Butternut Squash and Mushroom Soup, Zesty Tomato Soup, Brandywine Mushroom Soup, and Sweet Burgundy Onion Soup. The awards revealed the growing interest in gourmet taste, healthy ingredients, green packaging, and supporting charitable causes. Since then, the gourmet soup line has expanded with four new unique flavors including Cuban Black Bean Soup, Irish Potato Leek, Tuscan Minestrone, and Sicilian Tomato-Zucchini Bisque.

The Media, Pennsylvania-based Bookbinder Specialties Company, sell soups and seasonings based on favorite recipes from the Old Original Bookbinder’s restaurant, established in 1865 in Philadelphia’s historic Old City. Today, Bookbinder Specialties carries on the traditions of the restaurant while catering to the expectations of the nation’s gourmet consumers.
