Gracious Galleries: The Hit Parade by Sculptor Rosamond Lloyd Continues! 'The Art of Nurture' - Study of a Female Olive Baboon and Baby in Bronze
Time to take a break and monkey around with Peachy and Rosamond.
We don't think babooning is a verb yet but let us know if we're incorrect.
This piece was created by sculptor Rosamond Lloyd, who was inspired by a photograph taken in Kenya of a female baboon transporting her baby over some difficult terrain as it slept peacefully and unaware, on her back. Rosamond was moved by the maternal instinct and determination of the baboon and inspired to capture the moment in bronze. This piece was initially made in clay and cast in finest bronze using the lost wax process, by famous UK foundry, Castle Fine Arts. It is a signed limited edition of 5 and measures 36cms x 62cms. 'The Art of Nurture' was chosen from 800 submissions worldwide, for the David Shepherd Wildlife Artist of the Year show at the Mall Galleries in London, 2011.
