NHL Peachy Takes a Trip to Washington and Whom You Know is Thrilled To Kick Off Official Coverage of the Washington Capitals!
Our first Washington Capitals memory: We think the Washington Capitals were brilliant to draft Torrie Robertson 3rd choice 55th overall in 1980 (a great year for hockey in the Olympics...we do believe in Miracles!) and we're happier on October 4, 1983 he was traded to the Hartford Whalers because he is a lot of fun-he's very good at the card game Canadian Rummy as is a current NHL coach who was Torrie's teammate though it has been many years since we played-but they taught Peachy how to play. They played for fun. Washington received Greg Adams in return for Torrie, and Greg was also fantastic. Peachy's siamese fighting fish was named Torrie-guess why. If you don't know check out the career penalty minutes by #32.
Our history of hockey knowledge is fairly strong and certainly unique...while the other girls at Miss Porter's made bowls and vases in pottery class, Peachy was busy making the Stanley Cup. She did a term paper on the history of the NHL in 8th grade and in the History of Sports at BC did another on the Rise of Americans in the NHL. She only applied to colleges that had an NHL team in their city and better yet she attended Boston College which now has the winningest coach in NCAA history (thank you DAD!). According to the Capitals Media Guide, their history dates back to the 1974-75 season and we know when we started watching them they were in the Patrick division in the Prince of Wales conference. Of course, that has all changed by now. Our all-time favorite Capitals in addition to Torrie are Sylvain Cote, Dave Tippett and Joel Quenneville; we were sad to see them leave Hartford, but by now everyone knows Hartford made a lot of mistakes because they are no longer there (first principal mistakes according to Peachy: trading away Ron Francis and Kevin Dineen.) And look who's winning Stanley Cups as coaches now. We told you to hire Joel Quenneville as a coach when he was Coaching the Springfield Indians and the Hartford Courant published our editorial pieces.
Jaromir Jagr was also once a Capital and has always been one of our favorites since his rookie season in Pittsburgh, and did you know Adam Oates, current coach, was also a former Washington Capital player. Such fun to read the history section of the media guide! (also note: Adam Oates played for the Boston Bruins, and we also will have some exciting news about them as well shortly.)
If you really do know Peachy Deegan, the writing has always been on the wall that hockey would be a big topic here and it was a matter of finding the right people to know! Thank you Nicole and Megan. We could not be more thrilled to present our official coverage of the Washington Capitals and here are our interviews through the NHL of Alex Ovechkin, current Washington Capitals Star:

We also note that this has got to be the most patriotic team in the NHL so we are adding them to those columns as well.
