The history of Umberto's Clam House in Little Italy predates Peachy Deegan herself: it started in 1970 with the arrival of Umberto from Italy and the restaurant started in 1972.  We had a fantastic experience in our formal review, Peachy Picks Umberto's Clam House:
You can be assured that we have not forgotten about the clearcut superiority of the Linguine with Clam Sauce which dances like sugarplums in our heads and it's not even the night before Christmas, so this spot was an absolute must on our return list for this fall's best of in Terrific Takeout.  We began with a fresh tossed green salad, which is a great idea for every meal.  They were careful to remember that we like the dressing on the side.
Robert the owner suggested the stuffed mushrooms as an appetizer and they absolutely hit the spot.  Often, when done as well as these, less is more!  The bread crumbs were composed of these elements: garlic, parsley, pecorino romano and olive oil in the perfect ratio to each other.
When in Rome, do as the Romans do they say.  Since we were at a temple of seafood, we decided to go the poisson route.  Red Snapper sounded fantastic, but this wasn't simply Red Snapper.  Umberto's Clam House goes a step above: please meet the Red Snapper Marechiaro!
In a party of clams, mussels and calamari you will see the Red Snapper taking center stage in the middle, sauteed and all dancing in a light tomato sauce.  The flavor was incredible and the combination would be tough to beat if you are a seafood lover.  The portion was generous.
We said it in the initial review and we'll say it again now: you are going to be so in love with the Linguine with Clam Sauce you'd better order two-one to take home because we'll guarantee you'll be dreaming about it the night you eat it.  The linguine itself is perfectly al dente and the clams, garlic and white wine sauce compose one of the finest dishes in town.  The clams are brought in daily from Long Island.  People come from far and near to Umberto's Clam House to meet this star of the show:
Umberto's Clam House is most definitely Terrific Takeout.
