The holistic talent behind this movie makes it successful: the screenwriting is on the money. The casting of voices is perfect. The character development is the best part and it does not need to be complicated to be excellent: perhaps it is even more admirable when concepts are as pared down as they are in the widely appealing
Despicable Me 2, since it can be more difficult to execute well.
We totally envy the lipstick taser. We think this could be the latest and greatest for the women of Manhattan-Hammacher Schlemmer can you do it? Lucy announced her coolness from the moment she whipped it out and used it like the pro she is. Lucy also shows us how you can hang glide out of a plane in a moment of clarity. Who's Lucy you may ask? That's one of the umpteen reasons you need to see
Despicable Me 2...clue: Gru needs a little love! And like most fathers, he finds Antonio to problematic.
Though Edith and Margo have charm, Peachy's favorite character without a doubt is Gru's youngest daughter Agnes. What a birthday party...! What a castle! We are clearly sorry we missed it and especially that fairy princess. What big eyes Agnes has and what heart would she not melt. The humanity of each character is tremendously relatable which is no doubt another key to
Despicable Me 2's amazing box office results. Everyone has been on a bad blind setup date (well MOST everyone!) and you'll be in pain with Gru during trying moments. Aren't you excited to see who's going to save him? Moods are wonderful here too from the heart-shaped pancakes down to all the cheery details of a morning routine when in love.
Again, in
Despicable Me 2 the minions steal the show and when yellow, they remain completely adorable. Beware of the purple, and we suggest watching the bonus features of the people behind this movie to learn and appreciate more about them. We love the minion slapstick.
We definitely wanted to go to that Ice Cream Party that the Minions had, so much so in fact when Peachy discovered she was sans ice cream dans Chez Peachy, she went to the store.
That rascal El Macho truly cracked us up complete with his 5th of May party: we need one of those guacamole hats. Mall stereotypes are played up to a T and this will bring hilarity to your viewing pleasure as well. Folically challenged Gru goes to Eagle Hair Club...and what does he find behind that wall?
Best line: "This ain't a jellygun, sunshine," by Dr. Nefairo.
Of course, we recommend seeing
Despicable Me the original first so you know where it left off, but it's not essential to see it to enjoy the genius of
Despicable Me 2. We saw the original in the theater as a regular person before working with Universal. You've also got to see the three shorts in the bonus-Training Wheels was our favorite there. Come on, join the Anti-Villain League from your favorite couch and pop this essential movie in your player.
