We all want to be surrounded by beauty (or you probably do if you are reading this site!) and not everyone has a greenhouse in their Manhattan apartment. Maybe you have space for an orchid collection, you might not get one because your dogs will eat them....in any case, Sterling has wowed us once again with a gorgeous book that is bound to delight anyone that likes to be surrounded by the attractive. Ages ago when she first moved to New York, Peachy Deegan went to the Orchid Festival that was at the World Financial Center and it was stunning!  Written and photographed by Italians, Orchids is another testament to people from Italy having great taste.

The photography by Fabio Petroni is incredible and you'll feel like you're in an orchid jungle from the start.  However, there is depth to this work as well as we learn about the "new orchids" and just how many species there are and how they are classified.  From Enchantment to Passion to Grace and Elegance and to Extravagance the reader is brought on a botanical journey that we bet Georgia O'Keefe wishes she was here to see.

We definitely did not have a commanding knowledge about this flower before perusing this, but afterwards you'll be the star of cocktail party conversation when it comes to this plant-all kinds of interesting aspects are revealed.  If you believe that life should be beautiful, this is a book for you and it makes an excellent present for those that share that belief (and who wouldn't!).
Early botanists were English, French and Belgian but people all around the world can enjoy these today in reading this book thanks to the genius of Anna Maria Botticelli.

One of the most beautiful gift books we've seen this season, Orchids is Highly Recommended by Whom You Know!

For centuries, the orchid has been referenced in art, poetry, and various writings in order to convey an idea of beauty and charm. To this day, the extravagant and exotic flower continues to amaze and enchant all who cross its path, just as it once stirred in many the enterprising desire to travel the world in search of this most astounding plant in order to bring its beauty back to their homeland.

Touched by the flower in much the same way as the adventurers of old, photographer Fabio Petroni set out to capture images of this marvelous plant in its various forms. In Orchids, Petroni’s work is featured alongside inspiring text that serves to illustrate the sentiments incited by the orchid. This stunning collection of photographs will hold a prominent position on the coffee table of any who have ever fell captive to the splendor of the orchid.
