Andrea Fiuczynski to join Sotheby's as Chairman West Coast

Maarten ten Holder, Managing Director of Sotheby’s Americas, today announced that Andrea Fiuczynski will join the Company as Senior Vice President and Chairman of Sotheby’s West Coast operations on 1 February 2014.

“Andrea brings to Sotheby’s a wealth of experience gained throughout a distinguished 28-year career in the auction world, with more than 15 years based in Los Angeles,” said Mr. Ten Holder. “During that time she has developed outstanding relationships with important collectors, museums, advisors, attorneys and institutions throughout the Western United States, and established an impressive global network through her considerable experience in both Hong Kong and Europe.

“In her new role within our global team of senior executives, Andrea will guide our strategy for the entire West Coast, connecting collectors in this critical part of the country with Sotheby’s resources and relationships around the world. We are delighted that she will also bring extensive experience as a senior auctioneer to our international salesrooms. As a dynamic and seasoned art world professional, I know she will make a significant contribution to our focus on delivering the greatest value to our clients.”

Ms. Fiuczynski commented: “I am excited to join Sotheby’s Chairman’s Office, which recognizes the caliber of established collectors and art-world influencers from Seattle to San Diego, while also appreciating the enormous potential of new buyers and next-generation collectors throughout the region. I look forward to joining my new international colleagues in their continued efforts to ensure that these clients are an integral part of the company’s global business strategy, implementing specific business development targets not only on the West Coast but also in Asia."

Prior to joining Sotheby’s, Ms. Fiuczynski had a storied career at Christie’s where she began as a specialist in the French & Continental Furniture department in New York in 1985. After time spent in Berlin as Director of European Furniture & Valuations, she relocated to Los Angeles in 1997 and was appointed President of Christie’s Los Angeles in 2001. Throughout her significant time running that office, Ms. Fiuczynski’s special focus was in new client cultivation – a focus that will remain central to her work at Sotheby’s. As an important member of Christie’s team of auctioneers, she regularly took sales in both New York and Hong Kong in addition to notable sales throughout Europe.
