History of Whom You Know: Whom You Know Celebrates Our Fifth Birthday with Domaine du Vieux Lazaret Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc Imported by David Milligan Selections #2 in the Hit Parade of Five Fine French Wines for Five Fantastic Years!

Domaine du Vieux Lazaret

The origin of the name Vieux Lazaret dates back to the 18th century when there existed in the centre of the village of Châteauneuf-du-Pape a hospice or Lazaret. This offered comfort and shelter for the poor and infirm, provided by the Lazarists; A silent order of monks founded in 1625 by St Vincent de Paul to look after the sick and the needy in the French countryside. The buildings fell into disuse and were sold by the Commune during the 19th century to the Quiot family and used as agricultural buildings. Being situated in the village of Châteauneuf-du-Pape and close to other properties owned by the Quiot family, these original buildings have today been extended and modernized, and now form the main centre of the agricultural activities of Famille Quiot.
Earlier we celebrated with the red:
Alex Milligan decided that we will celebrate with not one but FIVE fine wines for five fantastic years, so if you are keeping track this is the second in the David Milligan Selections Hit Parade to celebrate our 5th Anniversary.  As you know, David Milligan is a Mover and Shaker. The
Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc is a fresh, welcoming white that has depth in flavoring, and its comforting almond and honey notes make it a white that's sure to be a hit in the winter as well.  The crisp bright flavors from France accentuate your culinary endeavors, however, this wine is a standout standalone as well.
Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc
Grenache Blanc, Clairette, Bourboulenc and barrel fermented Roussanne
A delicious, dry white, it has a fresh acidity, married to a round, long flavor with aromas of honey and almonds. As the wine ages, it becomes riper with flavors of fruit confits and minerals.
Vine Age: 35 years on average
Soils: Many of the parcels of vines are planted on the traditional “galets” or round, heavy stones washed down from the Alps, with underlying areas of alluvial soil mixed with stony sand and heavier chalky clay.
Planted area: 229 acres over 30 parcels (red and white)
Vinification: Pneumatic pressing. Static cold settling, matured on the lees for 4 months. No malolactic fermentation.

Alex says on Facebook: My father started this delightful company back in 1995. Since then we have striven to bring you delicious, affordable, terroir driven wines.

David Milligan founded David Milligan Selections in 1995 with the objective of finding great wines from top estates and creating exceptional values for the consumer.
This has been achieved by creating a low overhead operation selling directly on behalf of the estates to importing wholesalers around the country and thus eliminating the National Importer mark up.

Drawing on his many years of experience in the United States and in Europe where he was wine buyer for one of the largest wine companies, he has assembled a range of important estates in the main regions of France.

In selecting these wines he agrees with the consumer preference for clean, well made wines with emphasis on the natural fruit. He believes that this allows the true character of the soil in each region to express itself. Experts agree that his selections are classic expressions of each appellation. In 2006 he was joined by his son Alexander who spent two years working at Sherry-Lehmann, the prestigious New York retailer.
