Oh give us a home, where the buffalo roam...that's pretty difficult to find in Manhattan except when you consider what is going on at The Met! And these buffaloes are well-behaved and stand at attention ready to meet you, cast in bronze. You too can be living in the Wild, Wild West of Fifth Avenue if you want to do it in bronze...
We first covered this exhibit here:
We love going to The Met year-round, but when you consider the temperature outside now it is one of the best indoor activities here without a doubt, and this triumph of American history is an exhibit you absolutely must see. It's all Davy Crocket, Louisiana Purchase, Pioneering, Frontierland at Disneyworld complete with Country Bear Jamboree, Prospectors, Visual Metaphors for the West and Good Old Fun! Don Imus, this one's for you.
Among our favorites was the case of bears (not available on the press disc) with Kodiaks (Rusty Wallace, anyone?) and Black Bears done by artists James Clark and Edward Kemeys. We had a soul of contentment too after seeing these furry bronze creatures.
We particularly love Appeal to the Great Spirit (1913):
We liked it even better when we saw it wearing Red Sox spirit in Boston at the MFA:
Sporty Readers get excited for this football exhibit starting January 24th at The Met
We love the bulls fighting and it reminded us of the gigantic bull down on Wall Street...fingers crossed for another good year to come out of the stock market.
Being from Hartford, Peachy of course thought of The Hartford here.
Much inspiration is to be found by perusing this exhibit, and also a grand sense of history.
One more reason to love The Met!
