RESTITUTED MASTERWORK BY PISSARRO MAKES RECORD £19.7 million
· The top lot of the evening was Camille Pissarro’s restituted masterwork Le Boulevard Montmartre, matinée de printemps (1897), which achieved £19,682,500/$32,108,062 (est. £7/10 million) - a new record for the artist at auction
· Vincent Van Gogh’s L'Homme est en mer (1889) soared to £16,882,500 / $27,540,422, double the high estimate (£6/8 million) - the highest price for painting by the artist sold at auction in London in 25 years
· Pablo Picasso’s Composition (Composition au Minotaure) from the private collection of Jan Krugier sold for £10,386,500 / $16,943,497 (est. £1.8-2.5m) – a record price for a work on paper by the artist at auction
· Global participation was evident throughout the sale process, with works consigned from 10 countries sought-after by participants from an unprecedented 44 countries
o Tonight witnessed the highest number of registered bidders ever for a London sale of Impressionist & Modern Art at Sotheby’s
· With 88.8% sold by lot, tonight’s auction marks the fifth consecutive evening sale of Impressionist & Modern Art at Sotheby’s worldwide with a sell-through rate over 80%
o Nearly 60% of sold works brought prices above their high estimates
