If there were a ton of great Irish places to eat in New York, you can be assured that our culinary columns would be dominated by them.  (Neven Maguire where are you?) However, it is not an easy task for us to find great Irish places that are authentically Irish, dedicated to good food.  Since Peachy Deegan used to live in Cork, she can tell the difference between American Irish and Real Irish.  She aspires to be the real kind but cannot get rid of her accent despite living there.  (Her dad was so disappointed as he thought she'd come home sounding Irish.)
Not only is Bloom's Tavern authentically Irish but on our first visit we learned it has fantastic cuisine and is even bordering the Upper East side!  Run by John Mahon, Eugene Wilson and Noel Donovan, Bloom's Tavern is a relative newcomer.  We began with the Traditional Scotch Egg and Sausage Meat, which was entirely splendid with Rhubarb Chutney.  This is a boiled egg with sausage wrapped around it, breaded and deep fried.  Try it, you'll like it.
For our green salad we opted for the Mesclun Salad which was fresh and beautifully arranged.  All parts of the salad were chopped appropriately and they remembered to put the vinaigrette dressing on the side.  Without a doubt the piece de resistance was the Gaelic Style 12 oz Sirloin Steak accentuated with a Peppercorn Flambee Jameson Sauce-and all of you know that Jameson is Irish Whiskey.  Every bite was delicious!  The Steak Fries were standout as well as the broccoli and carrots that came to the party.

If you decide to stay in rather than take out as we did, note that there's a lovely fireplace.
Also, we like that they seem to agree that it's not who you know but Whom You Know:
Bloom's Tavern is Terrific Takeout!
