Brrrr is winter over yet? Unfortunately, no, so we've got something to cheer you up and make you rejoice in this cold season. One of the best winter experiences we've had recently was the amazing Clam Chowder at Vitae! Owned by Chef Edwin Bellanco, Vitae is a new hotspot to us and we are happy to say that the clam chowder is New England style. Little neck clams dance their way into your heart and stomach, bringing potato, and drumroll please, super succulent bacon lardons! We also saw carrots in here and have never seen carrots in clam chowder; they were good. Vitae is located at 4 East 46th Street not far from the former Bear Stearns (now JPM of course) and just a dash away from Christie's.
Chef Edwin is super creative with his Poached Pear Salad, above. Greek Yogurt, arugula, feta, pine nuts combine with the pears in an upscale arrangement accentuated by balsamic reduction.
We just love fish any time of year, and it's always a healthy choice at a restaurant. The whole black bass was astoundingly fresh and was of a generous size. It basked delightfully in soba noodles, carrots, jicama soy-ginger vinaigrette but the quality of the fish was so successful we think it would have been just as good with less pizzazz going around it. They filleted it for us of course, but the black bass insisted on smiling for the camera because you know you want to meet it.
