Without a doubt, the most superior culinary experience we've had in New York in awhile has been our William Poll experience, which clearly is the Rolls Royce of takeout.  They came highly recommended and now we know why!  The business was started in 1921 by current owner Stanley Poll's uncle, his father's older brother, and has been thriving ever since.  We're only sad it's not a restaurant, but your Chez Peachy will be a restaurant once you try their culinary genius and meet Stanley, who is a total peach himself.  We understand their gingerbread houses at Christmastime are truly a spectacular sight to behold so stay tuned for that.  They even have electricity in them.  Their custom work was amazing to hear about as well.
It is true-shopping is a pleasure and you are indeed treated like family.  Stanley regaled us with colorful stories and we think he should absolutely write a book and we want to be the first to review it.  Everyone in the know shops at William Poll and you would know of many of them-we aren't name droppers so we won't mention, but this is the best-kept secret of New York if you don't know it yet and can be discovered at 1051 Lexington.  We will say that Jackie Kennedy was a regular shopper Stanley said, and we recently sat in the booth where she became engaged to Jack at Martin's Tavern in Washington, D.C.  Stanley is getting up and running online now as well so that is exciting!   He always puts his customers first and is committed to quality and service, evidenced by their longevity.  They do close around dinner time-that was one reason why it took us so long to get there, so make sure you are on it in the afternoon with your order and not working away at the computer like someone we know.
For our salad option, we tried the Greek Salad.  Lettuce, tomato, red peppers, cucumbers, olives and feta cheese were amazingly fresh and delicious.  Let's be honest, vegetables are not always delicious. Stanley's vegetables ARE.   The pictures show you that.
It was arranged beautifully, and everything else we tried followed this high standard.
The smoked salmon at William Poll is absolutely fantastic and we miss it already.  The slices are perfectly thin and every bite is culinary bliss.  It's fresh, fresh, FRESH.  May we also say that everything was packaged expertly, and though we are primarily looking for fabulous food with a terrific person behind it, we can appreciate it when care is taken in wrapping the food neatly and precisely so it does not spill (not everyone has a dry cleaning pal like Peachy).  We bet if you are taking this on your private plane you have an even greater appreciation for this detail.
If you are an avid reader, you know Peachy Deegan adores proper chicken parmesan.  She ordered it all the time at the Boston College dining hall (in grinder format) and now that she's grown up for the most part, she uses a fork and knife.  Every bite was incredible here from the generous portion of chicken to the impeccable breading to the sensational spices and the succulent sauce and finally, of course the best part, the cheese to please.
That chicken parm is smiling at you!
We also loved the chandeliers as you might well imagine from Chandelier Peachy.
And finally, you need to try their baked potato thins, and note that is BAKED, not fried.  We will warn you, you won't be able to stop at only a few.  Here's their pile the day we visited them-of course they are served in smaller sizes.  They are made fresh daily and are great for cocktails, dipping and more!  To be honest, Peachy started eating them as soon as she was out the door and they are phenomenal!  She could be turning into the Baked Potato Thins Monster, akin to the Cookie Monster...

William Poll is absolutely amazing and definitely Terrific Takeout.
