If you are downtown near Ground Zero or Century 21, there are not a lot of great culinary choices in close proximity. Our absolute favorite downtown continues to be the stellar Battery Gardens (Paul and Ari ROCK) at the southern tip of Manhattan, but if you are looking for a quick casual bite, Zaitzeff is a great choice located at 72 Nassau Street since 2003. It's a family-run spot. We started with the mixed greens with avocado as our salad option, and it was fresh and spectacular.
They make two kinds of french fries: hand cut regular and hand cut sweet potato fries. If you like to have options like we do, you can order the mixed fries which has both.
If for some reason you are not a burger fan and want to be a bit healthier, the organic chicken breast, above, is juicy and tender and we really liked the grilled onions on it. It's served with lettuce, tomato, mayo and mustard as well. However, if we were you we'd go for the burger which hit the spot. We were told it's made with sirloin from D'Artagnan (Ariane does an amazing job) and you can create your own bespoke version: we added Vermont Cheddar. Check out Zaitzeff next time you are looking for a burger downtown!
