The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences presented HBO documentaries with eight nominations for the 66th annual Primetime Emmy Awards. A film about the search to cure progeria, 'Life According to Sam' was recognized in the category of exceptional merit in documentary filmmaking. 'One Last Hug' and 'Wynton Marsalis - A YoungArts Masterclass' were both nominated in the category of outstanding children's program.
'Paycheck to Paycheck: The Life and Times of Katrina Gilbert' is up for outstanding documentary or nonfiction special, as is 'Whoopi Goldberg Presents Moms Mabley,' which was also recognized in the category of outstanding narrator. 'Six by Sondheim' was tapped in the category of outstanding directing for a variety special. 'Herblock: The Black & The White' was nominated for music composition.
On the specials front, 'Billy Crystal: 700 Sundays' received three nominations for outstanding picture editing, writing, and variety special. 'Sarah Silverman: We Are Miracles' also scored nods for writing and variety special. 'Real Time With Bill Maher' was recognized in the variety series category.
In total, HBO received 99 Primetime Emmy nominations, the most of any network for the 14th consecutive year.
