Paul Mayer's luxuriously, comfortable designs keep women coming back for
multiple -- even dozens -- of pairs. Classic, yet contemporary and always comfortable,
his shoes are an addiction that we highly recommend. A staple of
the Paul Mayer collection is the simple ballet-flat, with true ballerina
construction for a perfect fit that comes in a variety of colors and materials.
A cult favorite is the cozy, a flat with lavender-scent infused soles adding
style and fragrance to collector's closets as Paul's designs emerge in
sophisticated design incarnations season after season in the most incredible
hues, textures and modern innovations in luxury footwear because we know
firsthand how incredibly brilliant he is. Mayer founded the brand in 2004
with partner, Jeff Levy. All shoes in the line are manufactured in Spain’s
Valencia region, along the Mediterranean coast by a skilled staff of 12
artisans. They craft each pair of shoes with an old-world attention to detail
that includes in-house embroidery, quilting and stitching as well as custom
tanned leather. This allows the brand to cater to each retailer’s specific
demands in with timely and consistent alacrity, with orders completed in an
unheard-of 3 to 5 weeks. When not in New
York, Paul can be found traveling to his myriad of stores across the country
meeting his loyal clientele or vacationing in his favorite spot, the Royal Hawaiian on Waikiki Beach.

It's one thing to be able to be legendary in your own right, but it's an entirely different thing to take the time to show others how to be great and Alan Alda has won us over in a big way with HBO Documentaries! We loved Alan in the movie Everyone Says I Love You, and of course many of you know him from MASH. Six young actors were chosen to work with Alan over a three day workshop, and this must have been an experience of a lifetime for them. Some of them ask some impressively intelligent questions...and you know we are huge advocates of asking the right question well!
Alan kindly bestows his wisdom to the young ones by showing, not telling them, how it is done. This alone is invaluable. Alan's down-to-earth qualities apparent through the television screen will make you see that he is among the actors that not only is among the best, but cares enough to show others how to develop into artists. This is not a quality we believe many legendary actors would have the ability and mindset to do. And, HBO captures it all brilliantly! Using your imagination changes you. You'll see a volleyball game like it's never been played...

The exercise of Improv (that's improvisation!) done in a manner that is approachable will entertain you tremendously. This is a must-see if you have any acting ambitions yourself, and if you don't, you'll gain knowledge on the skill of selling, which is essential no matter what your occupation.
You need to learn WHY you say the line.
Meaning is essential.
Alan is truly approachable and sheds light on the world of entertainment for these six chosen ones. He shows them other ways to learn lines other than reading them off a page. Alan highlights the difference between discovery and invention, and shows these kiddos how essential chemistry is with other actors when you pare everything down to just acting, no props. Just actors and a script! His enchanting sense of humor is contagious. And, he's got some interesting insights on nerves, the right attitude, and life in general!
If you like pure fun brought to you in an intelligent manner, this is for you.

And Alan, maybe you should write a book bestowing further wisdom...

For 33 years, the National YoungArts Foundation (YoungArts) has recognized and nurtured aspiring young artists and contributed to the vitality of the arts in America. In ALAN ALDA AND THE ACTOR WITHIN YOU: A YOUNGARTS MASTERCLASS, the acclaimed actor leads six gifted mentees — Nile, Analisa, Justice, Connor, Nadia and Juliana — through workshops in improvisational acting exercises and techniques. While the teens admit that “improv usually makes them nervous,” Alda promises it won’t be the traditional comedic form they’re accustomed to and encourages his students to focus on the meaning behind the lines, rather than the words themselves. “Improvising enables us to make something that we didn’t expect,” he explains. Playing ball-less volleyball and rope-less tug-of-war, becoming fluent in gibberish and experimenting with scene-play, the students delight in Alda’s lessons.
On day two, Alda introduces the concept that actors can “learn the lines through playing out the relationship with the other actor.” Inspired by this notion, the students integrate it into their repertoire. Afterwards, Alda leaves them with practical advice on pursuing an artistic career such as acting, noting, “Every time you get slapped down, don’t break. Just bend.”
Making his film debut in 1963, Alan Alda is one of TV and cinema’s most prolific and versatile talents, and has received six Emmy® Awards, as well as more than two dozen other Emmy® nominations, an Oscar® nomination, three Tony nominations, six Golden Globe Awards and three Directors Guild of America Awards. For 11 years and more than 250 episodes, he played the iconic character Hawkeye Pierce on the hit TV series “M*A*S*H,” where he established himself as a renowned comedic presence. Alda is currently a Visiting Professor at the State University of New York at Stony Brook’s School of Journalism.
ALAN ALDA AND THE ACTOR WITHIN YOU: A YOUNGARTS MASTERCLASS is a production of Simon & Goodman Picture Company; produced and directed by Oscar® and Emmy® winners Karen Goodman and Kirk Simon.
