It is one of life's finer moments when we find a restaurant that is new to us in Manhattan that serves delicious food beautifully arranged in a lovely clean setting owned by someone delightful! To that end, meet Serena's Wine Bar, one of the latest and greatest on the Upper East side located at 1268 Second Avenue open since June 21, 2014 and owned by Hasan Senyurt. This is our first visit. Don't let the name fool you: it's not all about the wine. The food we tried was among the freshest and best we've had recently in New York and we began with the House Salad. Mesclun mix with grape tomatoes thoughtfully halved, cucumbers with the centers cut out, carrots and beets shredded with flair and yes they even remembered to put the cilantro lime vinaigrette dressing on the side. From the salad, we knew this was a detail-oriented venue.
Burrata how we love you so and did you know there is such a thing as Burrata from New York? It's not all from Italy. This one is from Upstate New York and it was incredibly fresh, soft, flavorful and creamy. Serena's Wine Bar roasts the red peppers fresh, and again notice the gorgeous arrangement. The bread is from Sullivan Street Bakery and it is served warm. We would be very happy drinking wine and eating the burrata and bread all night. There is no such thing as too much burrata!
For our entree we chose the Sauteed Salmon, which was perfectly sauteed. It was fresh and flavorful, enhanced further by the lemon caper sauce which was just right. We find that some restaurants get aggressively creative which can result in stomach turning and this was interesting with depth with none of the crazy. (for more on what we are talking about, see Dustin Hoffman's line in the 3rd paragraph here quoted.) Every bite of that Salmon was superb and the mashed potatoes were a dream. The asparagus were fresh and crisp!
