DiMenna Children’s History Museum at New-York Historical Society to Host its Third Annual Family Benefit Party Saturday, January 24, 2015 from 11AM until 2PM
What:
The DiMenna Children’s History Museum at the New-York Historical Society is having its third annual Family Benefit Party ― Ticket to History!Parents and their children (ages 4 - 14) will explore transportation innovations by:
o flying through NYC’s skyscrapers on a Flight Simulator;
o designing and building 3-D fantasy vehicles—combine aspects of planes, trains, cars, blimps, boats, etc.;
o constructing and racing sail boats;
o building a map the Transcontinental Railroad;
o re-enacting the life of a colonial-era sailor;
o interviewing conductors, engineers, and railroad workers;
o hearing Nellie Bly’s stories of her round-the-world travel;
o decorating an historic vehicle used in NY over the past 400 years;
o taking home a memory of the day with a Green Screen historical family portrait.
Why:
The event will help the New-York Historical Society and the DiMenna Children’s History Museum to continue to provide one-of-a-kind opportunities for children and families to discover our nation's history. Through interactive museum experiences and unique family programming, as well as school programs serving students in school and in the museum, the New-York Historical Society annually serves more than 40,000 family visitors, 200,000 New York City school students, and thousands of teachers. In addition, the Family Benefit helps the New-York Historical Society care for a priceless collection, made fully accessible to the public.

ABOUT THE DIMENNA CHILDREN'S HISTORY MUSEUM
The DiMenna Children’s History Museum is a museum-within-a-museum and occupies the New-York Historical Society’s entire lower level. It covers 350 years of New York and American history and includes character-based pavilions, interactive exhibits and digital games, and the Barbara K. Lipman Children’s History Library. Families explore and learn together, through visiting the museum and participating in intergenerational family learning programs. All ages can enjoy and learn in the DiMenna Children’s History Museum, but the exhibits are targeted at age 8-13.
