Last Month's Mystery Landmark
The Pieter Claesen Wyckoff House at 5816 Clarendon Road in Brooklyn is the oldest surviving built structure in New York City (c.1652) and was the first New York City landmark to be designated by the Landmarks Preservation Commission in 1965.
Wyckoff descendants owned the house until 1901; it was repurchased by the Wyckoff Family Foundation in 1961, and donated to the city in 1969. It is now a museum.
The building was correctly identified by Mark Sielucka, who chose the Chrysler Building as one of his favorite landmarks.
