Last Month's Mystery Landmark
The Players, or the Players Club, is a social club that was founded by the noted 19th-century Shakespearean actor Edwin Booth, who purchased the 1847 mansion located at 16 Gramercy Park.
Stanford White designed the interior and part of the exterior. It was named a National Historic Landmark in 1962 and a City Landmark in 1966.
The building was correctly identified by Judith Gura, an expert on landmark interiors. To quote Judith on her favorite City interiors, "Grand Central makes me step livelier, the Morgan Library makes me feel smarter, and the TWA Terminal lifts my spirits."
